IRENA 7th Council Side-Event: Quality Assurance and Standardisation for Growing Renewable Energy Mar

Quality assurance and standardisation are important to facilitate the rapid scale-up of renewable energy technologies (RETs). Incentive policies for RETs are more effective with mechanisms to ensure that the technologies and systems deliver as planned. However, IRENA’s analysis reveals significant gaps in quality assurance and standardisation in the sector.

This thematic discussion, held in Abu Dhabi as part of IRENA’s 7th Council meeting, informed delegates on the organisation’s support for countries in operationalising and implementing RET quality assurance and standardisation. Ongoing activities relate to quality control for equipment as well as certifications for renewable energy system installers.  The session also gave member countries the opportunity to provide feedback on IRENA’s work and comment on needs and priorities for future activities in this area.
