Webinar on International Standards in the Field of Renewable Energy
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) presented the findings from its recently published study of standards for renewables during a webinar organised by the Clean Energy Solutions Center on 14 May. The study, “International Standardisation in the Field of Renewable Energy”, identifies over 570 standards in the current renewable energy technology (RET) landscape, yet also finds gaps, particularly for post-installation aspects such as operation, maintenance and repair.
The no-cost online webinar highlighted the work of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on renewable energy standards. The IEC presented “IEC’s Discount Packages to Access Sustainable Energy Standards for Rural Electrification.” The Commission recently announced its commitment to the UN Secretary General’s Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative, which IRENA strongly supports.
