Enhancing the role of renewable energy programmatic approaches in the implementation of NAMAs
Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) have been gaining increasing attention as an instrument that can foster low carbon growth in the developing countries. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) organised a side event during the 18th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as COP 18, in Doha, Qatar, to increase awareness on the programmatic approach for scaling up renewables, particularly in the context of NAMAs.
This event, on 29 November, showcased a new publication, the “ IRENA Handbook on Renewable Energy Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) for Project Developers and Policy Makers”. The event included presentations from field experts along with a panel discussion on the role of NAMAs in promoting renewable energy (RE) projects, policies and programmes in different countries.
