Central America Clean Energy Corridor CECCA

IRENA created the Clean Energy Corridor of Central America (CECCA) to promote the accelerated development and cross-border trade of renewable power in Central America, in line with the call made in 2015 in the Abu Dhabi Communiqué on Accelerating Renewable Energy Uptake in Latin America.

The initiative aims to facilitate the integration of larger shares of renewables into the regional transmission network known as the Central American Electrical Interconnection System (SIEPAC). IRENA used a consultative process with regional stakeholders to understand specific country needs and priorities, and develop the programme to support the region’s strategic plan for its electricity market, national and regional energy policies, and climate change strategies.
