The number of jobs in the global renewable energy industry grew by 5 per cent last year, in stark contrast to the steep losses suffered by the oil and gas sector. Solar, wind and other clean energy companies employed 8.1m people worldwide in 2015, up from 7.7m the previous year, according to data released by IRENA. The agency says today’s 8.1m renewable energy jobs should swell to more than 24m by 2030, assuming the share of renewables in the global energy mix doubles.
