Capacity Building on Climate Investment and Financial Flows in the Energy Sector in the Seychelles
Seychelles, as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) is among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change due to global warming that directly impacts the country’s important sectors such as tourism, fisheries and ocean resources for revenue and employment. IRENA has been supporting Seychelles’ energy transition efforts in coordination with other partners through the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative.
The objective of the Capacity Building on Climate Investment and Financial Flows in the Seychelles Energy Sector is to undertake an assessment of investments and financial flows for all climate change activities in the Seychelles related to different sectors, primarily focusing on the energy sector and to strengthen the capacity of Ministries on tracking climate financing flows as well as to incorporate these financing flows into the national budget exercise.
The capacity building workshop was a national level, 2-days training that covered the theoretical aspect of climate investments and flows as well as the approaches and practices adopted to track and report these investments and financial flows. The workshop also enhanced the capacity of the participants through practical hands-on experience on tracking climate finance in the energy sector using a customised tracking template and user manual.
The workshop was targeted towards representatives from relevant ministries on climate finance tracking and reporting, particularly the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Change.
