Renewable Readiness Assessment Jordan Multi-Stakeholder Workshop

IRENA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has embarked on producing a Renewable Readiness Assessment, coupled with the IRENA Flexibility analyses. This two-day multi-stakeholder meeting gathered national stakeholders representing the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), development partners, IFI’s, private sector, non-governmental organizations, universities, and research institutions.

Aside from the meeting, a series of side interviews were conducted by IRENA with a range of senior decision makers from public and private sectors, key donors and academia to ensure holistic evaluation of the country’s current renewawble energy status.

The workshop was conducted through plenary and break-out group sessions. While the background paper provided a starting point for discussions, the round-table discussions aimed to maximize the active participation of all stakeholders. Group discussions were based on the Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) template to identify key-service resource pairs and enable focused discussion sessions in each pair identified to increase the quality of discussions and the effective collection of expert input.

The objectives of the meeting included:

  • Introducing the RRA process, RRA core team and the national expert group;
  • Discussing and further developing the findings of the RRA Background Paper and complete the RRA template for the selected service-resource pairs. In this context, the discussions were conducted through break-out groups, based on stakeholder experience in each sector, under the guidance of the RRA core team;
  • Ensuring continued engagement of the key national stakeholders in the implementations of the RRA process;
  • Engaging with government, development partners, IFI’s and other relevant actors to coordinate efforts for the implementation of the RRA recommendations during the post- RRA phase.
