Between 21 and 27 September 2019, IRENA held and participated in a series of events to boost climate action globally.
Through the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, IRENA, in collaboration with SPC, hosted a regional training that aims to strengthen the Pacific SIDS capacity to implement their NDCs and long-term low emission development strategies.
This two day webinar which targeted homeowners, students, youth and other participants, aimed to provide an introduction to energy conservation and management with a focus on the conduct of home energy assessments.
The capacity building event contributed to the improvement of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the region and enhanced the capability of local utilities and regulators to design bankable contracts, with the final goal of contributing to effective commitment of private capital to the deployment of renewable energy projects in SIDS of the Pacific.
The SIDS Lighthouses Initiative was launched at the 2014 UN Climate Summit to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) energy system transformation and facilitate co-ordinated support through partnerships with public, private, intergovernmental, and non-governmental stakeholder organisations. The Initiative, co-ordinated by IRENA, brings together 36 SIDS and 21 development partners, and takes a holistic approach that considers all relevant elements from policy and market frameworks, through technology options to capacity building.
IRENA and the High-level Climate Champions hosted this event to support the accelerated mobilisation of investments and finance for energy transitions in SIDS for improved livelihoods and poverty eradication.
The capacity building workshop was a national level, 2-days training that covered the theoretical aspect of climate investments and flows as well as the approaches and practices adopted to track and report these investments and financial flows.
This event was the fourth segment of Grenada’s Capacity Building Programme which aimed to strengthen the capacity of relevant stakeholders to conduct energy audits to better understand and manage energy consumption.
The High-Level Dialogue organised by AOSIS and IRENA shared insights on the impact of the current crisis on energy in SIDS, highlighting country experiences, exploring the role of financial institutions and identifying prospects for renewable energy in the near and medium term.
MOEJ and IRENA organised a three-day training program to support the development of project proposals to access climate finance by SIDS stakeholders through various entities including local banks and climate finance entities.
A five-day workshop, jointly organised by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and IRENA, aims to support the development of bankable project proposals to access climate finance, especially from the GCF, by various stakeholders, including Regional and National Direct AEs from SIDS.
This event was the third segment of Grenada’s Capacity Building Programme which aimed to strengthen the capacity of relevant stakeholders to conduct energy audits to better understand and manage energy consumption.
The event aims to showcase SIDS’ NDC implementation achievements, identify and prioritize energy transition actions and gaps across mitigation, adaptation, and resilience, and contribute to preparations for COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates 2023.
