This webinar aimed to present key findings from the IRENA’s report Transforming small island power systems, share main takeaways from several grid assessment studies, and launch the Agency’s new report on “Quality Infrastructure for Smart Mini-grids”.
Through the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, IRENA, in collaboration with SPC, hosted a regional training that aims to strengthen the Pacific SIDS capacity to implement their NDCs and long-term low emission development strategies.
The capacity building event was expected to contribute to the improvement of PPAs in the Atlantic, Indian Ocean, South China Sea (AIS) region.
This two day webinar which targeted homeowners, students, youth and other participants, aimed to provide an introduction to energy conservation and management with a focus on the conduct of home energy assessments.
Organised in the framework of the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative and co-organised with the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the regional workshop on renewable energy project development and financing in the Indian Ocean Islands supported capacity building efforts by implementing a regional training on project development and financing for local SIDS stakeholders.
A number of countries including small islands are demonstrating that a higher share of VRE is possible, as long as you implement the appropriate technical, operational and regulatory measures.
The capacity building event contributed to the improvement of PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the region and enhanced the capability of local utilities and regulators to design bankable contracts, with the final goal of contributing to effective commitment of private capital to the deployment of renewable energy projects in SIDS of the Pacific.
